Free Install Builders

Why spend a ton of money for InstallShield when you can have an installation system for free?

After working with InstallShield for two years, I didn't want to be called the "install builder" any more. I understand the world needs installation programs, but it was definitely not the career path I wanted.

If you are a small business software shop and need an installation program for your application, you don't want to spend a ton of money buying an large installation package. That's the whole reason you wrote your program: to start making money!

The Daily Cup of Technology posted a great list of 9 free install builders. I'm sure one of these applications will satisfy even the fussiest users.

Personally, I would recommend the Nullsoft Scriptable Install System (NSIS), which incidentally is also on the list.
