Why Mind mapping works
Mind mapping is a diagram that represents thoughts, words, and ideas centered around a bigger idea or concept.
You have just been assigned a project and you need a way to organize your thoughts (napkin anyone?).
Before you start up Microsoft Word and move towards an outline mode, take this into consideration. Mind mapping takes your ideas, words, concepts, and thoughts and visually organizes everything into a main concept or idea. In my opinion, its a more flexible approach to how to tackle a project or accomplish something.
Sean Tierney's writes about why mind mapping software works and his take on why he thinks its a better solution as opposed to an outline mode, which I firmly back him up on this.
If you are interested in following up on how mind mapping works, check out the definition of mind mapping at Wikipedia. Near the bottom, they have a list of OpenSource applications to start you off. I currently use FreeMind.
Does any one else use mind mapping software as opposed to using the standard Outline/Microsoft Project outline?
