Fireday - Firefox extensions for April 14, 2006
Newest Firefox extensions discussed every Friday.
Well, after transferring my domain over to a new web hosting company, I'm back on track and looking over even more extensions than before. Here we go...
del.icio.us Complete
For those who don't know what del.icio.us is, del.icio.us is a social bookmarks manager, meaning instead of holding onto all of your "favorites" and bookmarks on your local machine, why not spread the knowledge and share your bookmarks? This is exactly what del.icio.us is used for.
What this extension does is take all of the functionality of del.icio.us and make it available to you through a context menu (right-click on a web page) for easy submitting of web pages that you think are important or cool enough to be shared.
If you use del.icio.us, then download this extension immediately.
RankQuest SEO Toolbar
The RankQuest SEO Toolbar takes 25 utilities and places them into one toolbar across the top. Some of the utilities include:
- Keyword Finder
- Keyword Density Analyzer
- Meta Tag Analyzer
- Code Cleaner
- HTML Validator
- Link Explorer
- ...and more.
They have also included about 12 search engine specific functions, including Googles' Page in Google Index, Google Cache, and Related.
Since I posted my site, I'm starting to go crazy and looking for ways to optimize it and provide more usability. The RankQuest SEO Toolbar is definitely helping in that regard.
Skype Sidebar 0.3
Am I the only person who hasn't used Skype yet? I thought this would be of interest to most users anyway. :-)
The Skype Sidebar extension is still in its infancy, but adds the necessary functionality to call, add, find, chat, and voice mail other contacts without leaving your browser.
I didn't realize this, but you can even start conference calls with the extension.
View Source Chart 2.0
Goooo Jennifer! This awesome extension shows you the DOM of a web page in a color-coded, nested format so that your source is easy to read and understand.
If you work with tables, this extension is valuable!
Web developers, make sure you get this one.
I want to let future extension developers know that if they are coming out with a new extension and they let me know, I will review it, give my opinion on it, and post it here for everyone to see. It seems this is definitely turning into a popular place for Firefox extensions. ;-)
Well, that's it for this week. I WILL be back next week with more extensions.
