Should bloggers alter history?

Make a post about a certain event and then the event takes a certain twist. Do you go back and update your post or place an update on the page?

Dave Taylor brings up a good point on his blog about why bloggers need to be historical revisionists on their site.

I've gone the way of putting an addendum to the end of my posts, usually a "UPDATE:" marker to show there are newer developments.

After reading this, I have very little respect for Radio Shack now.

I just found out about this and it happened on Tuesday morning and I am in shock.

On Tuesday, Radio Shack sent e-mails to 400 employees and digitally fired them. The e-mail read "The work force reduction notification is currently in progress. Unfortunately your position is one that has been eliminated."

Why small is the new big

Don't act big, act small, and think big.

One of the things I like about being a small business is the ability to change direction on a dime. If something happens over the weekend, you have a idea of which way the wind changes and you act accordingly.

When USAToday interviewed Seth Godin about why small businesses rock, he replied, "If you want to be big, act small."

Save some money and create your own network wiring for your house.

If you are into saving money and not paying someone to wire your small office or home, you can use this mini-guide on how to create your own ethernet cable and wire your house yourself.

For most hobbyists, wiring your house by yourself is a joy in itself. You don't need to call an electrician and you don't need a lot of money, but you will need to purchase some tools. At this point, most people throw up their hands and decide it's too much trouble to make your own cable, and run to the closest CompUSA or MicroCenter store and buy their 50ft cable already made..

How to document a client's network

Here's a simple roadmap and template on how to document a client's network.

One of my clients wanted to know if I could provide them with some documentation on how I set up their network. The documentation would include DNS, DHCP, Network Mappings, PC Naming, and other miscellaneous notes just in case the network went down.

After looking over the network, I came up with five (six with screenshots) worksheets (so far) in an Excel spreadsheet that encompasses the infrastructure of the network:

Is IE7 getting a beating or is it me?

Monday, August 21, 2006 7:00 AM

Posted by Jonathan Danylko | Tag: Microsoft | Comments: 0

I'm starting to notice more and more of how much flack IE7 is getting lately.

I'm not a big fan of IE, but lately, I've been noticing some articles that are beating up IE7. I've read the following post from Subtraction.com talking about The hidden costs of Internet Explorer:

Just how many hours of productivity have been lost to making Web page code work inside of Internet Explorer? Personally, I know that I’ve spent the equivalent of hundreds of man hours coaxing standards-compliant code to render properly in the I.E. world view, and the companies I’ve worked for have probably logged tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of man hours doing the same. When you add up all the effort similarly expended by designers, studios and corporations of all kinds all over the world and over the past five or ten years, it’s got to be an enormously expensive number; if you were to assign hourly rates to all that time, it might total in the billions of dollars.

But recently, the one that hit me the most was the post in defense of Internet Explorer at ArsTechnica.com. One user fired back at the Internet Explorer Group Program Manager Chris Wilson and made a comment that "Microsoft doesn't own the web, and it should stop arrogantly acting like it does and start playing by agreed upon standards." He concluded that IE7 couldn't even come close to the CSS support that Firefox and Opera has. If this is true, it makes me wonder why Microsoft isn't adhereing to the standards set by the W3C.
