Here's a great way to let people know that stealing wi-fi can cause some serious eye strain.
There's a reason I tagged this as humor. :-)
I love mixing technology with humor. This is one of those jokes that can definitely mess with the intruder signing into your network through Wi-Fi.

An excellent gallery of AJAX-enabled techniques.
Over the weekend, I came across a site that hosts a lot of AJAX techniques that are quite useful, I particularly like the charting feature.
The site is called AJAXDaddy and showcases some really outstanding techniques such as various table utilities (TableKit, Sortable Table, etc.), a 35mm Photo View (very nice widget), a Javascript carousel, a Fisheye interface, and many others.

Guy Vider at The Code Project has some code that detects whether .NET is available on the clients machine or not.
If you build client applications that require the .NET framework, you do realize that you can't install your awesome, brand new .NET application that cleans dishes, sweeps the floors, and streams music through your kitchen because they don't have the .NET Framework on their machine.
How can you detect whether they have the .NET Framework on their machine when your code is written in .NET?

Man, I love this town!
Wil Schroter's BIGGER Blog posted an article about what Silicon Valley could learn from Columbus, OH.
His post goes on to say that Silicon Valley is almost blinded by the startups and technology and how the companies who build these services do not consider what a customer is or does outside of Silicon Valley. They only care about what is happening inside of Silicon Valley.

When GMail came out, invites were the big thing just to see Google's new web mail. Now, it seems that everyone can't get enough of GMail extensions. The one problem with GMail is that is doesn't look like it's that secure (http, not https).

Have a manager wanting to know why you would want to use the latest technology and says it's too new? Forward this to them.
I've been using AJAX since I saw the first post from Jesse James Garrett and I've never looked back. It's a technology that is definitely here to stay.
Being a programmer is great, but trying to convince upper management as to why AJAX should be used on the next project is a bigger undertaking than writing an application.

First impressions are important with your potential customers.
A week ago, we decided to sign up with a lawn care service. The service seemed reasonable and we wanted a nicer lawn so the timing was perfect. I was getting sick of mowing dirt.
Fifteen minutes after the company's representatives left, we received a phone call from the company asking if tomorrow was acceptable for the first scheduled application. We were also told that they need to have access to the yard if its locked up. We do have a gated backyard that's locked up 99% of the time.

With Ubuntu rising above the Linux ranks, I decided to create a "Feisty MythTV!"
I felt it was time to upgrade my Tivo media box to MythTV 0.20, so I started to research on adding a little bit more to the Linux box.
Since Ubuntu 7.04 is one of the best distributions of Linux out there, I thought I'd take a look around and see if anyone had an ISO or build of Ubuntu/MythTV together.

Steve Jobs provides 10 golden lessons, but I prefer to call it inspiration.
Apple has been around for a long time and Steve Jobs has likely been a factor in its longevity. Mr. Jobs sparks the imagination and innovation of people inside, and outside, of Apple.
Ririan Project has a great post on the 10 golden lessons from Steve Jobs and is something for everyone to read and digest.
