AdSense Preview

Back in 2003, Google purchased Applied Semantics which owned a publishing method that eventually became Google AdSense. Ever since then, Google has been making money hand-over-fist with their advertising on the Internet.

Now if you're a publisher, you'd want to know what ads appear when you set up a web page so you can maximize your value when AdSense appears.

Luckily, this week's extension review provides a look into the AdSense algorithm with the AdSense Preview extension.

Overview

The AdSense Preview extension takes a current web page and displays your choice of AdSense formats with actual ads from AdSense.

Installation

The installation of the AdSense Preview add-on is small and installs quick. When installation is complete, the extension appears on the pulldown menu, right next to the help menu item.

Features

AdSense Preview won't blow anyone away with a feature list, but SEO and webmasters should find this extension extremely valuable. If they are looking to make some additional income online, this extension displays ads that are relevant to the web page they're currently viewing. This would maximize and hone their AdWords campaigns

Retrieve a web page and click AdSense Preview. You'll be presented with the common list of AdSense formats. Select a format and a window of ads will appear just as if AdSense was included on the page you're viewing.

As the formats change, I assume the extension will be updated accordingly.

According to the site, they've mentioned that:

"[The extension] lets you preview the Google ads that may show on any web page. THIS TOOL IS NOT AFFILIATED WITH GOOGLE.COM. Clicking the ads does not count as impressions nor will the advertisers be charged anything."

So click away. :-)

Configuration

Unfortunately, there isn't a configuration section for this extension. Click the "Options" button displays an "About dialog box" instead of options, which is kind of misleading.

Conclusion

As mentioned above, AdSense Preview is fantastic for users who are eager to make some extra cash by viewing other web sites (and their ads on the site).

This extension can be one piece of the ad empire out there that can move you towards making a blog and produce a decent living through online sales. Using the AdSense Preview extension can provide an insight into one's web site and possibly into Google's algorithm if studied enough.

The AdSense Preview extension receives a 4 out of 5.
