Coach Tressel Newsreader Extension

Since OSU is doing so well this year, I thought this would be a great time to grab an extension that really puts everyone in the mood (except Michigan) for some great college football.

The Coach Tressel Newsreader extension provides OSU fans with a way to stay on top of all of their latest and greatest news on their favorite team.

The installation was 86k and installed quickly. The extension is an additional toolbar and will immediately appear when you restart Firefox.

There are two features of this extension. One feature is that two buttons appear to the far left of the toolbar. Both are considered bookmark buttons. One for CoachTressel.com and one for OhioStateBuckeyes.com. Quick and easy way for the OSU fans to jump to their favorite site.

The other feature is an RSS ticker tape from Tressel's Tidbits. I think the RSS feed comes from the Columbus Dispatch, but I'm not certain. Each headline appears for 5 seconds and then moves on to the next headline. If you want more details about a particular headline, click on it and a new tab will open with the full article.

Unfortunately, there isn't a configuration option for this extension.

This may be enough for an OSU fan, but I think the extension needs a little more pizazz to it. Maybe a dropdown of some OSU fan sites to accompany the existing "bookmark buttons."

The company (brandthunder.com) who built the extension also created an OSU theme in Firefox for those who really want to show their scarlet and gray pride. The theme is a perfect compliment to the extension.

This weeks rating for Coach Tressel Newsreader Extension is a solid 3 out of 5.
