Interesting story and very enjoyable.

I enjoy the benefits of being a contractor as opposed to an employee. There are obvious reasons and then there are the personal reasons.

If you are a contractor, you are brought in to work on an assignment to the best of your ability and get the job done within the alloted time and budget with your technology knowledge.

Although most recruiters and businesses are looking more towards experience as opposed to how many certifications you have, Brainbench is offering technology exams for free until November 30th (tomorrow).

SEOMoz has an interesting post on how much SEO's make yearly.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Salaries seem to be growing more and more lately, because everyone wants to be number one in the search engines.

SEOMoz posted an article on SEO salaries and how much each position makes on average. Each position is sectioned into either In-House SEO's or SEO Agency Employees. Rand Fish also includes "factors that can create wide disparity."

Quicken Loans, University of Miami, and Mount Caramel Health Systems are but a couple of top companies in the IT field.

ComputerWorld has defined the Top 100 Best Places to Work in IT and shows how each of these companies and considered "special" in their approach to IT in their company.

One thing I noticed in the list was that the list includes some companies that aren't even IT related, like the medical or energy fields. This just goes to show that no matter what industry your in, if you do not know how to use a computer, you may have some roadblocks in your career.

ComputerArts in the UK posted a great article on 50 ways to become a better designer. Using these techniques, this can stimulate more creativity and productivity.

One method they listed works wonders. Ask your significant other about how a design, logo, or site layout looks because you need to get a fresh perspective on what your working on. If the person doesn't have any experience, even better. The person will give their honest opinion about what they like and don't like. Perfect!

Most companies say its your job to come up to speed on the latest technology since you're the professional.

We've all been there before. A new language or technology comes out. It's called ummm...Flitiphoist (imaginary programming language). The boss "read somewhere" that its the newest, latest and greatest thing out there and he wants to start spec-ing the project using that new language/technology.

When you hear the news, fear sets in. You start to panic. "I don't know Flitiphoist! What am I going to do?" Sounds more like a Dilbert cartoon, doesn't it?
