Fireday - Firefox extension reviews for April 27, 2007
This week: ShopZilla and KGen
ShopZilla
Rating: 5/5
Here is an extension that is similar to the eBay Buddy, but the difference is that it adds more bargain/budget web sites to the list including eBay.
ShopZilla provides access to the following sites with the simple right-click:
- eBay
- Amazon
- Buy.com
- eCost.com
- onSale.com
- NewEgg.com
- AccessoryGeeks
- TheNerds.Net
- ...and many others.
With every consumer site on the Internet, it's hard to keep track of all of the major bargain sites. For example, I've been looking for a site that compares printers and their features. I'm having a hard time finding reviews of printers. (I know CNET exists, but there's got to be more). ShopZilla provides an excellent list of comparison sites for your consumer needs.
Overall, ShopZilla is a great extension of your bookmarks for the shop-a-holic. If the author keeps updating the extension with the latest stores and comparison sites, ShopZilla will become one of my favorites...and probably my wifes as well.
KGen
Rating: 5/5
If you work with SERPs (Search Engine Result Pages) as a SEO (Search Engine Optimizer), you most definitely examine the client or your copy to make sure you have an adequate weight for the search engine bots.
KGen is a side-panel extension that takes the current web page you're on and gives it a weight by counting all of the words and showing the results in a grid format.
When I installed it, I navigated to a site and activated the extension through the View/Sidebars/KGen pulldown menu. I immediately pressed Scan It! and it gave me a weighted word list (the most popular words on the page).
When you receive your words in the grid, you have the option of copying your weighted results to the Clipboard. This is perfect for you Excel jockeys. Analyze to your heart's content.
KGen is great for bloggers who want to maximize their effectiveness through their writing and trigger a feeding frenzy from Technorati or Digg.
KGen should be a standard utility or plug-in for blogging sites. This would allow authors to sharpen their document to their targeted keywords for the search engines.
The extension is definitely great for clients and site optimization.
I'm holding on to this extension.
Hope everyone liked this weeks reviews. I'll see ya next week.
