This week: Google Calendar Quick Add and Snipshot
Google Calendar Quick Add
Rating: 3/5
Google Calendar is a blessing because every time I need a date entered, I head over to the "big GC" and add an entry relatively quick.
The Google Calendar Quick Add extension is even better. After loading and restarting Firefox, the extension was ready to go. Hit CTRL - ; (semi-colon) and a dialog box appears ready for the quick add.
Unfortunately, when I tried the extension, it didn't work. It didn't work in the sense that the dialog appeared, but when I entered the data on the edit field and hit enter, the dialog box disappeared. I assumed it added the event to my calendar since I was already logged in (a prerequisite for using the extension). After visiting the site, I noticed it wasn't there. I even searched through my events to find it. Nowhere to be found.
I added a couple more to see if I was doing something wrong. Nope. No events.
I proceeded to load up Firefox 1.5 and install the extension. It worked perfectly.
Once the extension is updated to support Firefox 2.0, this extension will go straight to a 5 out of 5.
Nice extension, though!
Snipshot
Rating: 5/5
Snipshot, in my opinion, is considered the first graphical editor for the Internet. Now I'm not talking about a Photoshop interface, but if you need fundamental adjustments made to your image without loading a large image editor on your machine or you need to modify a graphic remotely, make sure you grab this extension and take full advantage of this web service.
Yes, I said web service. Not only does it edit images online, it's a full-fledged web service that you can incorporate into your own web site. How's that for extendability.
But I digress...Back to the extension review.
Install the extension and restart Firefox and you're ready to rock. Pick an image...any image. Right-click on the image and select "Edit image in Snipshot." The option below it allows you to enhance or resize immediately.
At this point, you have your workarea opened and ready to start work on your image. The basic functions are Undo, Resize, Crop, Enhance, Adjust, Rotate, Open, and Save. The options are all self-explanatory except for the following:
Enhance - equivalent to Sharpen
Adjust - change the images brightness, hue, rotation, saturation, sharpness, and size
Open - Open a file locally or by URL
Save - save your image to WebShots, Flickr, or locally as a GIF, JPG, PDF, PNG or TIF
This is definitely an extension to keep on your portable apps USB flash drive for when you absolutely need an image editor. I definitely think as this online service becomes older, it may offer additional image processing effects and features. I can't wait!
In the meantime while I wait...a 5 out of 5.
Hope everyone liked this weeks reviews. I'll see ya next week.
