Since Christmas is coming, I thought a shopping extension would help with the budget this season.

Overview

PriceDrop focuses on watching Amazon's product pages to notify you when an item drops in price. Ummm....hence the name. :-)

If you have a shopping list for your family, friends, oh...and the mailman and hair stylist and you use Amazon extensively, you may want to download this extension pronto.

Installation

PriceDrop isn't that large and downloads as a small 23K extension. Quick and painless install. PriceDrop is a site-activated extension that will only appear when you visit an Amazon product detail page.

The extension can also be found on the Tools pulldown menu. The menu has an option to list the products that you are currently tracking.

Features

PriceDrop is a "what-you-see-is-what-you-get" extension. The extension doesn't have a ton of features, but provides you a monitor for when your favorite product goes on sale.

Activate PriceDrop by visiting an Amazon product page (shown above) and a small yellow section will appear asking if you want to track this product. If yes, click the link and that's it. It starts tracking the product for you immediately.

If you want to view the items you're currently monitoring, select Tools > PriceDrop > Tracked Products item. PriceDrop will open up a new tab and displays your entire product list you're watching.

To stop tracking a product, click on the Stop Tracking link and your product is removed.

Configuration

Unfortunately, no configuration options exist for PriceDrop.

Conclusion

PriceDrop is great for monitoring Amazon products, but could be improved to become a shopper's comparison tool. I see this extension becoming a Book Burro with additional sites included in their comparison. This would, in turn, justify a configuration dialog box.

The rating for PriceDrop is a solid 3 out of 5.
