This week: Dai.sy, Quiz Addicts Toolbar, and GUTil!
Welcome Firefoxers to the Thanksgiving edition. As it turns out, I thought Mr. Hewitt was releasing the 1.00 version of Firebug this week, but I was wrong. It won't be released until it's goes into beta, which may be a while. :-)
Anyway, let's get started...
Dai.sy
Rating: 5/5
Collaboration seems to be the thing with the Internet nowadays. Most users need a quick way to talk to their users relatively quick and the Dai.sy Firefox extension communicates with everyone willing to participate in a chat session.
The cool thing about this extension is that it takes a web site and turns it into a chat channel. If you have a meeting regarding a web site layout or design, you can invite all of the participants with an e-mail to view the site and chat about it.
Installation was simple. Restart Firefox and you'll notice the daisy icon near the address bar at the top. Navigate to a web address and click on the daisy. A sidebar will open. Enter your name, click on the avatar to select your image, enter a subject, and click "enter chat."
At this point, you should see a chat room with a list of the people currently available to chat. Of course, you may be alone until someone joins the session.

The additional tabs at the top, share and blog, take the sharing experience a little further. The share tab allows you to share a certain folder on your hard drive with the people currently connected to the site at that time. This option makes me jittery, security-wise.
The blog option allows you to blog away at the site, proving comments that can be posted about the site. This is an excellent way to have your clients look over a web site and leave comments for later. Excellent feature.
The Dai.sy extension is an excellent collaboration tool and enhances a website, whether it be a channel to relax and discuss the newest coding techniques (Yes, I'm a geek) or discuss with a client on what work should be done to an existing web site.
I like the Dai.sy extension and it is on my list of business extensions to use when necessary, but I don't keep it installed all the time.
Quiz Addicts Toolbar
Rating: 3/5
This extension is for you trivia buffs out there. I always head to BW3's at Crosswoods and they have the NTN Trivia which I love playing. When I saw this extension, I thought it would satisfy my trivia fix.
It does help, but it leaves me wanting more. If I find an extension or one that's similar to the NTN trivia network, I will definitely let everyone know about it.
Back to the extension. The Quiz Addicts Toolbar attaches a trivia toolbar to your existing toolbars and rotates through trivia questions every 30 seconds. If you know the answer, just click the answer button next to the question and see if you're right.
The other options on the toolbar are as follows: Next question, Office Idiot, On the Trot, Untimed, Quickfire, and more games.
- Next Question - Moves you forward to the next question if you wanted to answer faster
- Office Idiot - You can answer the questions as a team.
- On the Trot - I'm kind of hazy on this one, but it seems you answer questions with a one or two words.
- Untimed - Answer them at your leisure.
- Quickfire - Answer 5 questions in 30 seconds (How good are you?)
- More Games - Additional games at their web site.
The extension is good, but as I said before, it may need more gusto injected into it. Until then, I may pass on this extension for now.
GUtil!
Rating: 5/5
Ok, how many of you out there have a folder with Google bookmarks in them?
Yeah, I do too.
The GUtil Firefox extension is plain and simple. The extension is installed in two places: one location is a button off to the left of the address bar and the other location is a pulldown menu item called GUtil! Each option provides you with a list of all Google services, which makes things easier to locate instead of bookmarks. If you look at the add-on options, you'll notice that you can turn off the menu or show it. My preference is to turn it off since I have enough on the pulldown menus.

My Google bookmarks folder has been removed and replaced with the GUtil button.
I imagine that every new Google service that appears will be added to the list and the extension will be updated automatically (Hence, the extension update. Ahem!) :-)
If this makes my life easier with cataloging all of the Google services in one central location instead of me constantly looking for every Google site and URL and then moving each bookmark to their Google folder and then...ahhh...nevermind,. Anyways, it really helps.
Anything to make a Firefoxer's life easier. ;-)
Hope everyone stuffed themselves with some awesome turkey this Thanksgiving! Have a great weekend everyone! If you have any comments, please post them below or Contact me directly.
