This week: Poster, Addictive Typing Lessons, and Pearl Crescent Page Saver.
Poster
When you first install the Poster Firefox extension, you may have some trouble finding it. The extension is installed under the View/Sidebar pulldown. You may need to resize your window, but for most developers, you get the idea of what happens next.
Poster's main function is to provide developers an interface for testing Web Services or interacting with other web resources. This extension is definitely not for end-users. The extension allows you to execute a GET, POST, PUT, DELETE or a HEAD postback and see the results returned.
The site doesn't have enough documentation, but developers usually install an extension and dig in immediately, but it still requires a little kickstart.

Addictive Typing Lessons
When you were in high school/college, you probably took those typing tests and were graded on them. How many of you want to relive those college days?
After installed, you may be be looking for where the extension is located. The extension was installed on the status bar. I noticed the extension description when installed (Duh!).
The Addictive Typing Lessons Firefox extension gives you the ability to find out how fast you type. Plain and simple. The extension can test your typing skills on specific letters, words or full sentences. Overall, this extension is a great mini-teacher on how to improve your typing skills.

Pearl Crescent Page Saver
Last weeks Fireday, I talked about the ScreenGrab Firefox extension and why you need to have a JVM installed for it to work properly.
Well, this week, I'm reviewing the Pearl Crescent Page Saver extension. Quite a mouthful, but the Page Saver is exceptional for designer's portfolio work. The extension doesn't even need a JVM to run.
The Page Saver extension lets you capture full web pages in a PNG format. The extension uses the new canvas feature in Firefox 1.5. There are two versions of the extension: Basic and Pro. The basic version is primarily what users will want, where the professional adds the following enhancements to the extension:
- Save images to an HTTP or FTP server
- Place a copy of a captured image on the clipboard
(not available on Linux) - Specify destination file on the command line
The pro version costs $15 where the basic version is Free.
Page Saver is something that designers should have in their arsenal for showing off their work. I've been using the extension for a while and I think its a great tool for analyzing other web sites as a whole as opposed to viewing pieces of paper taped together. :-)
