Google Checkout Issues Arise

Google Checkout is trying to compete with PayPal, but I feel even the company needs more momentum to keep up with PayPal, based on some issues reported from merchants.
This morning, I received an update from Google's Blog regarding Checkout, telling everyone "Thank you for checking out Google Checkout" and was offering even more if you used Google Checkout at any one of 14 or more stores.
"Spend $20 or more and you get a free Google Checkout T-Shirt." hehehe...wear THAT to a nightclub.
I'm wondering what came first, the Google post or the news about problems with Google Checkout. As well as the post from Google, I received another news tidbit in my e-mail from InfoWorld about Google Checkout "taking too long to complete sales transactions and sometimes cancels orders unjustifiably and without warning."
With Google Checkout released over the last two months, I still feel PayPal has sunk their teeth into ecommerce web sites and it will definitely take a while for Google Checkout to catch up to their competition.
