With Ubuntu rising above the Linux ranks, I decided to create a "Feisty MythTV!"
I felt it was time to upgrade my Tivo media box to MythTV 0.20, so I started to research on adding a little bit more to the Linux box.
Since Ubuntu 7.04 is one of the best distributions of Linux out there, I thought I'd take a look around and see if anyone had an ISO or build of Ubuntu/MythTV together.
As it turns out, it's easier to just install Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn) and then download and install MythTV.
Last night, I started the project and I must say that after 1 hour of formatting/installation/configuring, I installed MythTV on Ubuntu with little problems by using this Ubuntu/MythTV guide. I installed everything under the "Combined Frontend, Backend, and Desktop" section with the "fresh hard drive" link. It takes you step-by-step on what to do.
I say little problems because I had a problem with the partition manager creating a partition of more than 200GB of storage. I had a 320GB hard drive and wanted to use 300GB for video/storage/music. To get around this problem, create an additional partition and set your video storage to 200GB and that should keep you moving.
One problem I was worried about (since I'm a Linux n00b) is that I would have a problem with setting up my TV Tuner card. The cool thing about Ubuntu is that the Haupaugge 500MCE is baked into the installation of Ubuntu. Sweet!
So now I have MythTV installed with all of the plugins as well and receive updates as needed.
