Fireday is a review/discussion of the newest Firefox extensions on Friday.
A little late this week because of some hard drive downtime.
After my hard drive problems, I wonder if any backup extensions exist...ehhh...anyway, on with the show. :-)
MultiColumn
As soon as I installed this extension and rebooted, my Firefox changed. After being in tune with how Del.icio.us, Digg, Google, Slashdot, and all of the other sites display their news, this was definitely a different way of displaying a list of articles.
The MultiColumn extension takes a familiar web-site and formats the list into a multi-column display, similar to a newspaper format.
When I started working with the web in 1996 (WOW, 10 years?), I didn't always like the horizontal scroll bar on the bottom of web pages because I felt like I was missing something. Now, with this extension, I AM missing something so I need to move sideways to get the news. :-) Thats just my opinion, I could be wrong.
This is absolutely the extension you need when you have two or three monitors. If you don't have two or three monitors tied together, then pass on this extension.
Rating: 3/5
AdSense Notifier
Show of hands. How many of you use AdSense on your site?
The AdSense Notifier extension will help in tracking how much you've earned so far in AdSense.
After the extension is installed, it displays how much you've made in the status bar. Its a good extension, but it makes me wonder...
I think the extension requires a "boss key." Do I really want my boss to see how much I'm making outside of work while at work. ;-) That would be the one thing that should be added to make it more effective.
This extension gets a 4/5 rating.
Digg.com Toolbar
Digg has definitely changed the way news gets around. If you find something mucho importante, you can use the Digg.com Toolbar to post it immediately to the Digg.com site.
Among posting to Digg.com, other features include:
- Get updates through the built-in message box (RSS)
- Add your own custom buttons to the toolbar
- Listen to every diggnation podcast
One of the things I do like is the ability to listen to the diggnation podcasts while on a web site. Very cool.
This extension is packed full of features and if you frequently visit Digg.com, download this tool. It'll keep you in tune with Digg.
Rating: 5/5
NOTE: If you want me to review a Firefox extension, let me know and I'll be glad to review it.
See ya next at the end of this week.

After all, there's only so much unbroken horizontal space you can take before word-wrapped text starts to become uncomfortable to read.
