Tagging will be taken to the next level.

I'm currently redesigning my site (Yes, I'm a little bit behind schedule) and in the redesign, I'm focusing on a tagging hierarchy.

A what?!?!

Yes, a tagging hierarchy. It seems that this is the natural progression of how personal and business sites should flow. Pick a primary category and then select a sub-category (or tag) to view all of the posts for that particular tag.

It's a very powerful navigation scheme and will actually drive itself. Imagine a common list of tags on the right-hand side of your site. It matches all of your site's tags and categories to what a user is looking for.

I'm not the only one who is moving towards this type of "tag framework." I just recently read a post about The Mu Life talking about how to tag and categorize your content. Good article, but it's primarily geared towards WordPress blogs.

I'm a techie by nature and I built my site from scratch complete with a CMS, so that article doesn't pertain quite as much to me as it would my audience. But I found another interesting post about OOT (Object-Oriented Tagging) by Mohammad Ashraful Alam, which is precisely the direction I'm moving towards.

Not only does this help your users understand what type of content you have on your site at-a-glance, but it also helps the search engine spiders know what type of content you have on your site (translation: Search Engine Friendly!).
