Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was great because I related his movie to RIA and Web 2.0.

I finally saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I have to say it was a great movie with great special effects. Although, I like the original with Gene Wilder better (sorry Tim).

Now, I know what your thinking. How does Charlie and the Chocolate Factory relate to Web 2.0 and Rich Internet Applications (RIA)? I'm glad you asked.

Let's think back to the movie. Charlie runs home to his mom and dad because he won the last Willy Wonka Golden Ticket. He shows it to them and "I won! I won!" After the excitement dies down, he says, "But we should sell the ticket for the money." His Grandpa George asks him to come over by his bedside and says:

"There's plenty of money out there. They print more of it every day. But that ticket? There are only five of them in the world, and that's all there's ever going to be. Only a dummy would give this up for something as common as money. Are you a dummy?"

Definitely a great quote and it hit me like a ton of bricks when I heard it.

Macromedia...errr...Adobe says it's the "experience that matters!" It doesn't matter how much money you have when you go to a web site. What matters is that you are enjoying yourself when you get there. If you are enjoying yourself on the web site, chances are, you'll be back.

If you recently converted a regular HTML site to a Flash- or Web 2.0-enabled site, after a month, you probably notice a difference when you look through your server logs. I'm guessing people are staying longer.

The reason people are staying longer is because they found their "golden ticket" and their cashing it in. It's definitely a coo to a web site when this occurs.

Why do I feel like eating a candy bar now? :-)
